Cryptanthus bivittatus 'Red Star'
Cryptanthus bivittatus 'Red Star' is a terrestrial Bromeliad with beautiful red-tinged foliage. Cryptanthus are related to Bromeliads and are commonly called Earth Stars. While most other bromeliads have very small, unimportant root systems, Cryptanthus are unique in that they only grow terrestrially in soil with more extensive root systems. Cryptanthus share a lifecycle with other plants in the family Bromeliaceae; after growing many small flowers, the mother plant will use energy to grow multiple "pups," or offsets, that will slowly replace the original plant.
• Light: Medium to bright indirect light
• Water: Keep soil evenly moist, but not fully saturated
• Considerations: Place plant in an ambiently humid spot such as a bathroom, or otherwise offer supplementary misting between waterings. Brighter light increases intensity of red foliage
