Edithcolea grandis - Persian Carpet Flower
Edithcolea grandis is the crown jewel of stapeliads, with spiny leafless branches and amazing giant flowers. In the family Apocynaceae with Hoya, Ceropegia, Pachypodium, and more, Edithcolea grandis is native to eastern Africa, growing in hot dry areas with low rainfall. This plant is cultivated for its amazing flower, which is five pointed and intricately patterned with red and creamy yellow. Although beautiful, the flower is best admired from afar, as it is carrion scented.
PLANT CARE
• Light: Bright, direct light. Southern or western exposure preferred.
• Water: Drought tolerant. Water when soil is completely dry. Withhold water through winter.
• Considerations: Use well-draining soil and a pot with drainage hole. Intolerant of overwatering, especially with colder weather.
