Hoya retusa - Grass-Leaved Hoya

$ 18.00
Size

Were it not for the characteristic star-shaped flowers, you might not even guess Hoya retusa was a Hoya at all! This bizarre little Hoya from India is distinct from just about everything else in the genus. It's elongated, flat and narrow leaves grow in clusters, with a wispy, almost succulent look to them. It makes a perfect choice for a hanging basket, as it will grow long stems that cascade down the sides of the pot.

PLANT CARE

 Light: Perfect for bright, indirect light
• Water: Drought tolerant. Water when the top 1-2" of soil feels dry to the touch
• Considerations: Use a well-draining soil, and select a planter with drainage. Pet friendly!

An interesting Hoya for the collection

Immediately upon unwrapping, we dubbed this hoya retusa Grumpy Chives and that name has stuck. It looked dry but in good condition so I watered it and left in alone in my west-facing bathroom window (a low light location). After a week, the peaty soil mix was still quite wet, so I repotted in terracotta and left it for another two weeks. It still has the same slightly withered (“grumpy”) look, but today had a bit of new growth, so maybe not that grumpy after all. Looking forward to figuring this one out. Packed and shipped perfectly, as always.

Such an interesting Hoya! Came in great condition, perked right up with a good water and a couple days of light. Everything I get from Pistils is so well-packaged, thank you!

Lovely retusa

A five star! Retusa came in perfect shape, and quickly. Worth the money, too.
