Our Rhaphidophora Plaques feature unique shingling aroids endemic to tropical Asia. "Shingling" refers to the growth style, where leaves grow flat along the surface that the vine is climbing. These Rhaphidophora are shingling epiphytes, meaning they grow on and up trees instead of in soil. These plants send out roots along their stems to help them climb and absorb water.
To make our Rhaphidophora Mounts, stem cuttings are rooted directly onto sphagnum moss, anchored on a sturdy wooden board. Unlike other mounts which also have soil, these plants are growing entirely epiphytically, just like they can be found in their native jungle habitats. These mounts are fitted with a metal loop for easy hanging on the wall.
Our current selection of Rhaphidophora Mounts features Rhaphidophora hayi. You will receive one plaque featuring a long vine of R. hayi grown epiphytically on a bed of sphagnum moss.
• Light: Bright, indirect light
• Water: When moss feels barely moist, submerge entire mount in room temperature water until fully saturated
• Considerations: These pieces dry out very quickly; mist frequently!
