Vanilla planifolia - Vanilla Orchid
Vanilla planifolia is the plant that produces vanilla pods that we love to use for baking and flavoring ice cream. Although unlikely to flower in the average home, it is a beautiful vining orchid with bright green, succulent leaves and huge growth potential. These plants can be trained on a trellis, around a hoop, or up a wall.
These plants thrive in warm and humid conditions, perfect for a bathroom or kitchen. If you want to encourage the vanilla to bloom, it will need regular applications of diluted orchid fertilizer year-round.
PLANT CARE
• Light: Perfect for medium to bright, indirect light
• Water: This plant does not like to dry out completely. Water when the moss is dry, but before it becomes crunchy.
• Considerations: While not necessary, this plant could be repotted into a well-draining soil after acclimating to your home environment
